High taxes don’t help Canadians save or spend. Another thing that they don’t do is help families and businesses during tough economic times. The Conservative government understands that lowering taxes, like the GST, is a key way to stimulate the economy and put more money into the pockets of consumers. That’s why, in 2006, the Conservative government acted ahead of the curve and announced it would reduce the GST to 5%. Last January, this promise was completed. January 2009 marks the first anniversary of cutting the GST to 5%. For over a year now, families, seniors and businesses have enjoyed the benefits of a lower GST, not to mention lower income taxes and new tax credits.

The conservative government promised to cut the GST. Last year we fulfilled our promise and cut the GST to 5%. Now and for the last year Canadian families are saving real money on every purchase they make.

Who is on the right track to give Canadians tax relief?
